Cake Smash Preparation & What to Expect

Hi There Friend <3

I’m so excited that your smash session is almost here! I know there is a lot of information here but to ensure a successful smash session please take a few minutes to read it through. I give you permission to lock yourself in the bathroom with a treat ;)

WHAT TO WEAR

We should have already discussed the theme of your session (if for some reason we haven’t stop and call me ;)) and I’m sure that you have picked out the most adorable outfit for your little one. Please ensure that it is ironed/wrinkle free and WELL fitted. Anything that is too loose/baggy will not photograph well.

If you have purchased a package that includes family images these images will be taken first (before cake)! And will be taken on a plain, timeless background so you will not have to worry about matching anything but each other.

PHOTO TIME

When working with your tiny humans, I do everything I can to work at a fun quick pace. Even through we slot an hour for your session (and cake is involved ;)) that doesn’t always mean they will allow us to capture them for that long. Therefore, I shoot a LOT in a little amount of time.

CLEAN PICTURES

These photos come first and will last about 10-15 minutes. During this part of the session be prepared to do a bit of running after your little one, placing them back in the photo shoot area. At this age they are always on the go so you might want to wear something cool. Most parents break a sweat :)

MESSY PICTURES

Here comes the fun part!! We will let your kiddo set the pace during this part as some little ones are eager to dig in and others are more hesitant and need a bit of encouragement. If your kiddo is shy about digging into the frosting, you might have to pop in and show ‘em how it’s done (I mean you deserve a bite too right?!).

Warning: Some little ones cry during this process. Some a lot, some a little, some not at all. They get messy, they get tired, they no longer want to be messy, tired, or on the backdrop….But this is when we will break out their favorite song, treats, give a drink, etc. so make sure and save the best for last. Tip: sometimes puffs stuck in the back of the cake will encourage them to dig in as they know what to do with those ;)

Just know that no matter what happens we will stick it out, sometimes the best pictures come between some sass. LOL.
